Job: Academic Support Coordinator at the Vanderbilt Writing Studio

Please share! The Vanderbilt Writing Studio and Tutoring Services office is accepting applications for a position that includes writing center administration as well as one-on-one writing support.

This is a full-time, in-person 12-month staff position. As a member of our team, the Academic Support Coordinator serves as a professional writing consultant, contributes to a team-based effort to recruit, train, and mentor our student staff of writing consultants and STEM tutors, and coordinates and leads a set of programming for graduate students including a weekly writing group program and three annual Dissertation Writers Retreats. The position acts as Writing Studio liaison to important campus partners including Vanderbilt’s Residential Colleges and the English Language Center.

A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution of higher education is preferred. Strong applicants will also have experience tutoring writing in a writing center or other similar context, experience supporting Writing across the Curriculum or Writing in the Disciplines initiatives, familiarity with writing center theory and practice, as well as familiarity with inclusive teaching and tutoring practices.

We are seeking candidates available to start by mid-August or as soon thereafter as possible. The exact start date is negotiable.

Beginning as soon as June 20, we will be requesting the following supplementary application materials on a rolling basis from those who advance to our second stage:

  1. a statement of tutoring philosophy (or a teaching philosophy statement that addresses your approach to one-on-one writing support)
  2. a writing sample (20-25 pages suggested, although shorter pieces that demonstrate one’s scholarly writing are acceptable)
