Hello colleagues,
You may have seen this new resource circulated through social media, CCCC, or MLA materials, but I thought I would also send it along to the list. MLA/CCCC have convened a task force to offer scholarly leadership and resources on AI and Writing. I am sharing several links that may be helpful to you:
- The Task Force has released its first working paper: MLA-CCCC Joint Task Force on Writing and AI Working Paper: Overview of the Issues, Statement of Principles, and Recommendations. The goal of this working paper is to provide some foundational information for a wide range of teacher-scholars, and serve as a resource to support conversations for readers as they discuss the emerging issues at their home institutions. This is a starting point as these two professional organizations and members they represent grapple with this rapidly evolving landscape.
- The TF submitted a statement in response to the Request for Information circulated by the White House through the Office of Science and Technology Policy. The administration requested feedback from groups to help guide the development of a National Artificial Intelligence Strategy. https://hcommons.org/app/uploads/sites/1003160/2023/07/OSTP-response-from-MLA-CCCC-1.pdf
- You may also be interested in a webinar that is being hosted on July 26. Information on registering is available here: https://webinars.mla.org/webinar/what-ai-means-for-teaching/.
The task force is interested in learning more from members of the field about their needs on this topic as we prioritize our work and future resources. Feel free to interact on the TF blog through the comment function on the working paper and statement to OSTP.
