GradSchool: Herstory Carceral Justice Fellowship

Hi everyone—

The Herstory Writers Network (Herstory) is excited to be accepting applications for our 2023-2024 Fellowship Institute. Herstory is a grassroots community writing organization that has been teaching memoir to change hearts, minds, and policy for since 1996.

This year, the fellowship, which is open to master and doctoral students in the humanities, will focus specifically on issues related to carceral justice as we partner with Humanities New York and Stony Brook University to pilot a new online curriculum for teaching memoir in prisons, jails, and post-carceral spaces.

During fall semester, fellows will participate in weekly writing workshops (Thursdays from 10:30-1:30 ET) to write their own memoirs as they learn Herstory’s empathy-based pedagogy. During spring semester, fellows will receive practicum support and mentorship as they lead their own writing workshops to address an issue related to carceral justice and engage in scholarly conversations through presentations and publication.

For more information about the fellowship and submission instructions, please see the attached application. Applications are due by August 20th.

Please share this call with any students who might benefit from this opportunity. If you have questions, please contact Erika Duncan, Herstory’s founder and executive director, at eduncan or myself, the fellowship coordinator, at chad.seader.

Take good care—
Chad
