Assistant Professor of Technical Communication & Rhetoric

Summary Information:
The Department of English in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for two full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professors in composition/writing studies, rhetoric, or technical communication position to begin fall 2024.

Required Qualifications:
In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants must have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and graduate levels within or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service. Additional required qualifications are:

  1. PhD in English, Rhetoric and Writing Studies, Technical Communication, or a related field by time of hire;
  2. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher; and
  3. A record of peer-reviewed publication which has contributed to the discipline and/or a demonstrated promising research and publishing agenda in the field.

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  1. We are especially interested in applicants who specialize in composition/writing studies, rhetoric, or technical communication with research and teaching that focuses on feminist rhetorics, rhetoric of health and medicine, disability rhetorics, Latinx studies, cultural rhetorics, grant writing, and/or writing pedagogy and theory; and
  2. Applicants with administrative experience, online teaching experience, and a record of scholarship supported by funding are strongly encouraged to apply.

Tenure-line faculty in the department teach a 2/2 at both the undergraduate and graduate level, in onsite, hybrid, and online modalities. The Technical Communication and Rhetoric program offers a BA, MA, and PhD in onsite, hybrid, and online delivery modalities. We also offer graduate certificates in Grants & Proposals and in Teaching Technical Communication. With around 120 students in our robust graduate program, our 14 faculty have opportunities to teach graduate courses in our areas of interest.
