Survey: Virginia Writing Centers Mapping Project

Hello writing center colleagues in Virginia:

You are invited to participate in the Virginia Writing Centers Mapping Project by completing this brief survey: Virginia Writing Centers Mapping Project. The survey will take between 5-15 minutes to complete, depending on the amount of detail you wish to include. To view all the survey questions before beginning, click here.

This project employs participatory mapping to create a “crowd-sourced” visualization of writing centers in our state. Participatory mapping is a methodology that allows a broad range of contributors to shape the making of a map. Our mapping project is a collaboration of the SWCA Virginia Network, the William & Mary Center for Geospatial Analysis (CGA), the W&M Writing Resources Center, and every writing center in Virginia that chooses to participate. Funding has been provided by the SWCA’s Christine Cozzens Research Grant and Initiative Program.

The project has three goals:

  1. Locate Virginia writing centers using geospatial technology.
  2. Develop a visual representation of the impact of writing centers in Virginia.
  3. Create connections among writing centers in Virginia.

The information you provide in this survey will appear on a publicly available, interactive map. To see and interact with the map before you begin your survey, click here. Filter using the interactive legend and click on the dots to see more information about individual centers. Please note that this map is a work in progress: the information available will become richer as more writing centers participate.
