Event: Accessibility at FemRhets

Dear Feminisms and Rhetorics Attendees,

We are so excited to welcome you to Spelman College in just a few weeks! To make this de-conference a welcoming experience for as many people as possible, we have some information about accessibility at Fem/Rhets 2023.

  • We are thrilled to share the first ever Fem/Rhets Accessibility Guide! It is a living document, meaning that more information will be posted up until the conference. It already includes a ton of information about conference, hotel, and city accessibility. Many thanks to the Accessibility Guide committee Drs. Stephen Knadler, Robert Edwards, and Pushpa Parekh.

  • As you are preparing your conference paper, please keep accessibility in mind. Here is a useful guide for doing so. In particular, we want to highlight the importance of bringing a script or handout of your talk to distribute, either via print or digitally or both. We have had a number of conference attendees say they need printed or digital materials in order to fully engage with the conference. We are grateful to the Fem/Rhets community for building a culture of access through these meaningful steps.

  • Fem/Rhets welcomes children! We will have Kid Kits available for our youngest Feminists-in-Training, including activity books and information about local activities for families. The kits will be available at the Access Table.

  • Have questions, comments, concerns, or queries about accessibility? Before the conference, please reach out to Ruth Osorio (rosorio). At the conference, please visit the Access Table right by the registration table on Sunday 10am-1pm, Monday 10am-1pm, and Tuesday 10-12pm.

  • Although masks are optional, we do encourage attendees to wear masks on the way to and at the conference. COVID numbers are increasing across the country, and masking is a simple way to protect each other.

  • If you have communication access needs (CART and/or ASL), please inform Ruth ASAP so we can coordinate.

Thank you so much for contributing to a culture of access at Fem/Rhets 2023 De-Conference!
