The Department of English at the University of Northern Colorado seeks to hire an Assistant Professor of Writing Studies (tenure-track). Responsibilities include undergraduate teaching and advising; scholarly activity; and service to the department, college, and university. Teaching load is three courses per semester, comprised mostly of general education writing courses but the hire will have the opportunity to contribute to the department’s move toward a more diverse curriculum within larger English program offerings. These offerings may include, for example, courses in Native American or Mexican American literature and/or courses within the Writing, Editing, and Publishing emphasis that emphasize indigenous/multicultural rhetorics, technical writing, or editing.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic English Department that is committed to enhancing the diversity and inclusiveness of the campus community and the curriculum. They will contribute to the delivery of outstanding writing instruction and demonstrate an ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications
A PhD in Rhetoric and Composition or a related field and at least two (2) years of experience teaching writing at the college level.
Preferred Qualifications
Scholarly publications in the field of Writing Studies and/or Rhetoric and Composition (or the potential to publish). Potential to contribute service to writing program administration. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the department’s course offerings in one or more of the following: diverse literatures; anti-racist approaches to writing, editing, and publishing; technical writing. Evidence of pedagogical innovation or commitment to developing pedagogical innovation. Formal professional development directly related to the field of Rhetoric and Composition (such as workshops, seminars, participation in teacher training activities, etc.). Additional demonstrated expertise in and evidence of anti-racist pedagogies and practices (or commitment to development of anti-racist pedagogy).
Compensation and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Compensation for this position includes an approximate salary range of $54,400-58,300 based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include health, life, and dental insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement programs. Other benefits may be available based on position.
