Assistant Teaching Professors in the Writing Program
WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY’s Writing Program invites applications for four permanent, non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professors to join our community of writing teachers.
We welcome applications from teachers, writers, and scholars across Writing and English who are passionate about the teaching of first-year writing (FYW). We are especially interested in applicants who have designed and taught innovative FYW courses. Successful applicants will join a multidisciplinary faculty in the teaching of FYW, with occasional opportunities to design and teach upper-level courses in our interdisciplinary writing minor (https://writingprogram.wfu.edu/writing-minor). The role prioritizes teaching at 80%. The remaining 20% includes service work possibilities in the program, department, and college; academic advising; and participation in professional development activities on campus and in the candidate’s field.
In addition to a demonstrated commitment to the teaching of FYW, we seek colleagues with an ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching and service work. In the classroom, this commitment may be evident in, but not limited to, anti-racist, anti-patriarchal, anti-colonial, and queer writing pedagogy; course design rooted in social justice, including linguistic justice, or disability and accessibility studies; and/or practical application of other inclusive teaching strategies. Candidates are encouraged to describe their pedagogy related to these or other aligned values and practices in their cover letter and/or teaching philosophy.
Teaching load is 3/3 and consists primarily of writing courses for first-year students (capped at <16). These positions include funding for professional development (including travel and fees for conferences and workshops, support for development of new courses, material resources related to teaching) and the opportunity for promotion.
Salary is competitive.
Position begins July 1, 2024. For more information about the Writing Program visit https://writingprogram.wfu.edu/
