The University of North Texas invites applications for an assistant professor in technical communication (tenure-track) position to begin as early as fall of 2024.

Position Summary  
The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in information architecture or content management/strategy/analysis. This specialist will help to fortify our existing courses on content strategy, user experience, and information design, imparting their understanding of the field to shape future leaders in technical communication.

Further, they will equip our students with critical proficiencies, which could include XML, metadata, taxonomy management, to enhance the marketability and success of our graduates.

As a tenure-track member of the faculty, candidates will be expected to develop a record of scholarly research necessary to obtain tenure and to regularly teach undergraduate and graduate technical communication courses. The typical teaching load for junior faculty is 2/2.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Ph.D. in technical communication, information science, learning technologies, or related field by the time of appointment.
  • Defined research agenda, the ability to teach a variety of foundational courses in technical communication, and experience teaching courses at the college level.

Preferred Qualifications      

  • Experience teaching in technical communication in online or hybrid modalities.
  • Industry experience as a technical communicator, information architect, content strategist or related field.

The Department
The department is one of the few stand-alone technical communication departments in the country and the only Texas-based program located within a major metropolis. We offer the BA, BS and MA in professional and technical communication, along with an undergraduate certificate in technical writing and a graduate certificate in technical writing.

The University and Area
The University of North Texas is a Carnegie classified Tier 1 research institution located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and situated less than 30 miles from the DFW International Airport.
