Position Summary:
The Department of English, Philosophy, and World Languages at Arkansas State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English, with an emphasis in Writing Studies, to begin in Fall 2024. Areas of preferred emphasis include composition studies, strategies and methods for teaching writing, critical pedagogy, and rhetorical theory. Additionally, candidates who also have the experience and ability to teach Creative Writing (Poetry) are strongly encouraged to apply. The appointee will be expected to teach a range of courses on writing at the upper-level and graduate (M.A.) levels, in addition to general education courses in the field of Composition and Rhetoric, such as Composition I and Composition II
Duties & Responsibilities:
Teaching load of the faculty is normally twelve hours per semester. A reduced teaching load is provided for pre-tenure faculty. Faculty workload also includes research, creative activity, service, and professional development in the best interest of the students and community at large. All faculty members are expected to assume student academic advisement responsibilities in addition to their regular teaching loads.

A-State offers an English major, a Writing Studies minor, and a Master’s of English with an emphasis in composition and rhetoric; the Writing Studies minor and Master’s emphasis in composition and rhetoric are growing in both student interest and class offerings. This program features a highly collaborative environment in which faculty work together to create courses and resources to best suit the needs of the diverse and growing student demographic. Teaching load of faculty is normally four courses per semester. Faculty workload also includes research, creative activity and service. Pre-tenure faculty receive a one-class reassignment for research.

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned Ph.D. in English, Composition and Rhetoric, or a related field by August 2024
Teaching experience in composition, rhetoric, and/or writing studies
