The Department of English at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship with a specialization in Composition and Rhetoric, and with a secondary interest in Linguistics, ESL Composition, Journalism, and/or Writing Program Administration to begin August 2024. The preferred candidate will be prepared to teach, as part of their schedule, upper-level undergraduate classes in our Professional Writing major, as well as assist with the coordination of our university composition program. The typical teaching load for research-active faculty is 3 courses per semester. The Department of English at UNCW is committed to teaching courses in the university’s core curriculum, and to extending opportunities for faculty members to develop and teach courses within their specialties.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

A PhD in Composition and Rhetoric or a closely related field and a demonstrated commitment to teaching and research are required.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

We are interested in a candidate who demonstrates successful college/university teaching and displays clear evidence of scholarly potential. Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in Writing Program Administration and a secondary interest in Linguistics, ESL Composition, or Journalism.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The English Department at UNCW is composed of three tracks: Literary and Cultural Studies, Professional Writing, and English Education. We house BA, BA/MA, and MA programs, as well as a Certificate in Professional Writing, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Science and Medical Writing, and minors in English and Journalism. Faculty members also have opportunities to teach as part of interdisciplinary programs across campus, including the Honors College.
