Survey: 2022-2023 Writing Centers Research Project

Hello,

We are reaching out to you on behalf of IWCA and the Purdue OWL. We know it’s a busy time of the semester with November already upon us, but we hope you help us by completing the 2022-2023 Writing Centers Research Project (WCRP) Survey. The instrument is the only one that IWCA sponsors, and its data extends back to 2000 when Carol Mattingly at the University of Louisville administered it.

This year, the survey is coordinated by Nathan McBurnett, a full-time specialist at the Purdue OWL, and Ghada Seif Eddine, a PhD student in Purdue’s Rhetoric and Composition program. The historical perspective of the WCRP is valuable to new researchers like Nathan and me — it’s teaching us to think about writing centers in a variety of contexts.

Our aim this year is to ensure that we are getting representations from different types of writing centers and institutions, including community-based writing centers as well as writing centers in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

We know it’s a long survey with lots of questions that might require you to think or dig up information. We recommend you download the PDF copy of the current survey found on this page https://owl.purdue.edu/research/writing_centers_research_project_survey.html in order to prepare to do the survey and gauge the kind of survey questions you will be answering.

If you filled out the survey in the previous year 2021-22, we can retrieve your response so you can autofill and update your answers for this year’s survey, making the process quicker and easier. If you filled out the survey before 2021-22, we can send out a PDF of your past response for you. Your participation will help us show historical shifts at writing centers like yours. Just shoot us an email, and we will help you out!

If you want to check out the survey results from previous years, head to https://owl.purdue.edu/research/writing_centers_research_project_survey.html

Our aim is to close the survey around early December. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email us back.

Thank you,

Ghada Seif Eddine (she/her)
