Job: Multiple Positions for Fall 2024, Lecturer III in Technical Communication @ University of Michigan

The Program in Technical Communication at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, is hiring three, full-time Lecturer III positions to begin Fall 2024. Applications are due January 16, 2024, via Interfolio: https://apply.interfolio.com/135795.

Our department teaches technical communication courses for engineering students. TC faculty integrate written, oral, and visual communication into engineering courses, with a special focus on teamwork, ethics, and social impact. We regularly team-teach courses with other technical communication faculty as well as technical engineering faculty.

The TC Program is housed within Michigan Engineering and employs 35+ full-time teaching faculty. We have a vibrant, supportive workplace culture and a passion for creating outstanding learning experiences for our students. We are also exceptionally dedicated to our faculty’s professional development and well being, and we purposefully invest in creating an equitable, collaborative, supportive, and human-centered department culture.

As a Lecturer III, you would teach sections of both standalone and team-taught technical communication courses, with an initial focus on first-year writing in our team-taught Engineering 100 courses; on intermediate technical communication in TCHNCLCM-300 (our standalone course for Computer Science and Computer/Electrical Engineering majors); and on supporting our embedded curriculum in upper-level disciplinary courses (as needed). In addition to teaching, Lecturer III faculty also perform departmental service.

The initial appointment would be for three years. This is a renewable, promotion-track position, with a clearly defined review and promotion pathway. Successful candidates are eligible for promotion to Lecturer IV (and eventually Teaching Professor); successful promotions also result in progressively longer contracts, and eventually a continuing appointment, per the terms of the LEO contract.

The University of Michigan offers competitive benefits packages and the LEO union provides substantial support and advocacy for all UM Lecturers. UM also provides professional development funds for LEO Lecturers (up to $1500 per year).

For questions, please contact the Chair of the Search Committee at TC-search-committee. I am also happy to answer any questions.

Best,

Kelly
