Dear writing tutors,
You are invited to participate in a research study that intends to expand on the research of online writing instruction (OWI) by collecting data on the platforms writing centers across the country utilize for online real-time tutoring sessions. It will survey tutors on the frequency they use features of these platforms in online real-time sessions, and the purposes tutors use these features for. By collecting data on tutor perceptions of the technologies and features of OWI, online writing center tutoring can begin to be recognized as a separate tutoring practice with its own unique qualities, as opposed to an approximation of face-to-face writing tutoring. Findings from this study may also be used in scholarly venues and publications.
Your decision to participate in this study has no bearing on your position at your university writing center; additionally, you can withdraw from the study at any time.
If you are interested in participating in our survey on online writing tutoring platforms today, please feel free to complete this survey online here: go.osu.edu/wcstudy; this survey should take no longer than 15-20 minutes to complete. If you choose to participate in the study, the end of the survey will provide you an option to be entered into a drawing for one of four e-gift cards of your choice (Amazon, Target, DoorDash, or Chipotle). There will be five of each kind of gift card available for the drawings (20 gift cards in total), and these gift cards will have a $25.00 retail value and be sent to winners via email. Participants’ odds of winning an e-gift card depend on the total number of survey participants; however, we estimate that participants’ odds of winning an e-gift card will be between 5% and 20%.
