Job: Assistant Director, Writing Center and Service Desk at PFW

Purdue University Fort Wayne is searching for an Assistant Director for our Writing Center and Library Service Desk.

This position is twelve-month staff, and the annual salary is $46,800.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to assist in the supervision, training, support, and management of the Writing Center and Service Desk staff, and to assist in overseeing day-to-day operations (opening and closing the building, dealing with disruptive or problem patrons, facilitating referrals and alerts for students in need of Writing Center services, leading Writing Center orientations and workshops, performing circulation tasks, building and maintaining excellent relationships with internal and external university partners, and collaborating with the library management team). These activities are done in tandem with the Director of the Writing Center and Library Service Desk (me), so it is not a lone island at sea!

The successful candidate will have, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of supervisory experience. Preference will be given to those who have completed a certificate or degree in English composition, editing, pre-professional writing, or Communications, OR Library Science or Library and Information Science coursework or degree. Those who have experience in a writing center, are knowledgeable of library databases and electronic resources, and/or have related employment within an academic setting are also preferred.

*The schedule for this position is Mon – Wed 12pm – 9pm, Sat 8am – 5pm, & Sun 12pm – 9pm during fall and spring semesters, and will adjust during the summer as the library closes at 7pm weekdays and is closed weekends.
