Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $81,633 – $159,014. The budgeted salary that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $81,633 – $107,763.
Percent time: 100%
Anticipated start: September 1, 2024; or thereafter
Position duration: This is a 100% time appointment for 1-year from the start date, with the possibility of reappointment in the title contingent upon performance.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) invites applications for the position of Executive Director of the Yardi Scholars for Environmental Justice program. Funded by Yardi, the program is a four-year, cohort-based, experiential education and financial aid program designed to support incoming first generation and low income students. Incoming UCSB undergraduates accepted into the Yardi Scholars for Environmental Justice program will receive full, four-year scholarships and will participate in curricular and co-curricular experiences that foster the knowledge and skills associated with leadership and effective environmental changemaking.
The Yardi Scholars for Environmental Justice program will ramp up over a period of four years. The first cohort of circa 18-20 students will apply for the program in the Spring of 2025 and will arrive at UCSB that fall quarter. A new cohort will be enrolled each subsequent year. The program will reach full capacity in the 2028/2029 academic year.
The Yardi program is structured as a four-year learning experience. In year one, Yardi scholars are immersed in possibilities for exploring questions and creating solutions to environmental challenges from multiple disciplinary perspectives through a fall quarter seminar, led by the Executive Director and featuring UCSB faculty guest lecturers. In year two, Yardi Scholars begin to see ideas in action as they work with one of many campus student organizations committed to environmental action. The Executive Director will support the Yardi Scholars in identifying and reflecting on their extracurricular participation in campus organizations. Year three is the centerpiece of the program. The Yardi Scholars will undertake multidisciplinary team projects as part of a practicum that runs throughout the academic year. Between 4-5 project teams will work on environmental solutions for clients from the Central Coast community. The Executive Director will recruit potential clients and support the project teams. In year four, students conclude their Yardi Scholars experience and their UC Santa Barbara educations, honing their environmental solutions specialization via an undergraduate research or internship experience of their choice.
The Executive Director will work with the Yardi program faculty directors to develop and coordinate all aspects of the program. The Executive Director will be responsible for: 1) Managing the program recruitment and application process; 2) Providing direct mentorship and academic guidance for the cohorts of Yardi Scholars throughout their time at UCSB and coordinating peer mentoring; 3) Developing and leading three courses (seminars and project practicums per year related to the Yardi Scholars for Environmental Justice program; 4) Coordinating an annual retreat; 5) Leading program communication; and 6) Supporting program administration and evaluation.
The successful candidate will have experience collaboratively creating and administering a dynamic program, experience mentoring undergraduates from first generation and low income backgrounds, subject matter expertise related to environmental justice, and postsecondary teaching experience.
Specific responsibilities include:
Mentoring
• Support cohorts of Yardi Scholars (up to 72 scholars/per year)
• Facilitate navigation of UCSB resources and experiences
• Provide academic guidance
• Coordinate and oversee peer mentoring
• Organize monthly social activities
• Mentor second year students participating in on-campus organizations
Teaching
• Discovery seminar (fall) for first year students
• 3 quarter course sequence for client-based project learning (F/W/S) for third year students
• Seminar on Change-making for Just Sustainability (winter) for fourth year students
Co-curricular Activities
• Organize annual Yardi Scholars retreat
Communication
• Create program website
• Support annual report
Yardi Scholar Recruitment
• Collaborate with UCSB Office of Admissions to do outreach
• Target outreach to eligible admits
• Manage Yardi Scholars application, review, and acceptance process
Program Administration
• Support program evaluation activities
• Support financial management activities

QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
• Master’s degree or the equivalent (in any discipline)
• Postsecondary teaching experience (at least one year)
Preferred qualifications
• At least 2+ years of experience in education and/or nonprofit administration, focusing on environmental justice and/or social change
• Experience supporting, mentoring and working with a diverse student population, especially first generation and low income students
