CFP: Computers and Composition Special Issue: Multimodal User Experience Composition

Hi all,

Gustav Verhulstonck and I are excited to announce a call for submissions to Computers and Composition‘s 2025 special issue on Multimodal User Experience Composition.

Specifically, we are interested in submissions that address questions including but not limited to the following:

  • In what ways can emerging technologies, such as GenAI, AR, VR, mixed reality, and voice user interfaces, among others, be used to enhance multimodal UX composition in professional and/or classroom contexts?
  • How are UX principles, design theories, and/or methodological frames evolving in response to emerging technologies that can help us better understand new multimodal UX composition practices?
  • What challenges and/or ethical issues arise from the use of emerging technologies in UX composition, and how can they be addressed?
  • How can UX designers ensure that UX composition practices with emerging technologies are accessible and inclusive for diverse user groups?
  • How can we update composition pedagogy, both face-to-face and online, with the latest UX technological advancements?

Given that the list of questions provided is not exhaustive, we encourage submissions that explore various aspects of multimodal UX composition.

Individuals and co-authors are invited to submit a 500-word proposal, not including references, that clearly identifies the critical discussions of UX research and/or design studies relevant to the fields of composition research and technical communication. Proposals should briefly provide an overview of the projected article as well as its contribution to the discipline.

Proposals should be submitted as a .doc or .docx file, attached to an email addressed to both Jialei Jiang (j.jiang) and Gustav Verhulsdonck (gverhulsdonck). The subject line should read “Special Issue Proposal: Multimodal User Experience Composition.” Queries are encouraged and should be posed via email to Jialei Jiang (j.jiang) and Gustav Verhulsdonck (gverhulsdonck).

Initial proposals due: November 1st, 2024
