JOB SUMMARY
This person will teach a 2/2 load of writing courses (first year sequence and the writing major). 1/1 will be administrative release time to be the Director of the Writing Collaboratory.
The University reserves the right to change or assign other duties to this position.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND TASKS:
Responsibilities will include:
- A demonstrated ability for and special interest in teaching first year writing as well as courses within the university’s writing major
- A demonstrated ability for and special interest in teaching writing tutor training
- Oversight of the campus’ peer tutoring writing center, including scheduling and oversight of peer tutors, budgeting, faculty support, data collection, and assessment
- Serving on departmental and campus-wide committees, including the first-year retention committee
- While this job is a faculty position (housed in the Business, Media and Writing department), the director will coordinate closely with both the Director of Composition, the Dean for Academic Success, and other student support services on campus
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Successful teaching
- Successful continuation of the Writing Collaboratory and campus outreach regarding writing.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required qualifications include:
- PhD in Rhetoric/Composition/Writing Studies or related field
- Experience and/or background in Writing Center studies
- Demonstrated, successful university teaching experience beyond Teaching Assistant/Associate level
Additional Desired Qualifications Include
- Experience with and commitment to teaching in a small-school environment
- Administrative and/or managerial experience
- Active research/scholarship agenda
- Experience with or interest in programmatic assessment
- Commitment to DEI initiatives and social justice pedagogy, particularly pertaining to first generation students and multilingual students
EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS
Required: Phd in Rhetoric/Composition/Writing Studies or related field
Position start: Spring 2025 semester
