Dear Colleagues,
My name is Min Yang, a PhD candidate in the Department of English at Texas Tech University. I am writing to invite you to participate in a research study that I am conducting for my dissertation project titled “ When Confucianism Meets Neoliberalism: How Chinese Graduate Instructors Establish Teacher Identity in U.S. Writing Classrooms.” The study aims to draw on these experiences and perspectives to help build more inclusive writing programs in supporting professional development for NNES graduate student instructors.
I am looking for Chinese graduate instructors (GIs) and Chinese faculty who have experience of being graduate instructors in writing programs in U.S. higher education. I am seeking participants who were born and raised in China and have received education up to the college level in China. I am looking to listen to your experiences and insights of developing teacher identity in mainstream US writing classrooms as non-native English speaking (NNES) graduate instructors.
If you agree to join this research, your participation will consist of: 1) filling out a short survey about yourself (approximately 5-10 minutes, 2) participating in an interview based on your availability via Zoom (approximately 60-90 minutes). The interview will be recorded so that I can transcribe for later data analysis. The recording will be kept confidential. The total time commitment on your part, if you agree to participate, will be about two hours.
To appreciate your time, I will offer $30 worth of gift cards for the business of your choice (from Amazon, H-E-B, or Starbucks) for participating in this study. The gift card will be sent to you by email after the interview is completed.
If you are interested in participating, please read the attached Study Information Sheet and take a few minutes to take this short min.yang.
Thank you for considering the request. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Min Yang
