Event: Come Explore Western Massachusetts for Write Across America on October 8th

Hello all you National Writing teacher-writers and friends!

We at the Western Massachusetts Writing Project, in partnership with the Springfield Armory National Historic Site, are excited to be hosting next week’s Write Across America online marathon. It takes place on Tuesday, October 8, starting at 08:00 PM ET, 07:00 PM CT, 06:00 PM MT, 05:00 PM PT.

Our writing session is a nice introduction to Write Out 2024, with the theme of “Poetry For The Planet.” Write Out takes place October 13-27. More information about the larger Write Out project, and its newsletter, is available at the NWP Write Out website: https://writeout.nwp.org/

Following in the footsteps of the amazing Writing Project sites that have hosted before us, we, too, have created an interactive map, with information, media and prompts that we hope will inspire your writing on October 8th.

The theme of our sharing is the Connecticut River Valley of Western Massachusetts, which has been home and a source of inspiration for many writers and poets over the years, including Emily Dickinson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Lucy Terry Prince, Sylvia Plath, Sojourner Truth, Robert Frost and others.

There’s even a Poet’s Tower on the map! (Doesn’t that pique your interest?)

Here is a link to the Connecticut River Valley of Western Massachusetts map, for those who like to get a sense of the content and prompts (which you can use or ignore, as per your choice) before the event itself: https://storymaps.com/stories/972eb799df32441682844c7fdbebb97e

If you have friends and colleagues who are interested in joining us, be sure to share the Write Across America registration form, as this is how the Zoom link and information for joining the session will be shared before the October 8th event. We hope to see you in our explorations on Tuesday, October 8th, at 08:00 PM ET, 07:00 PM CT, 06:00 PM MT, 05:00 PM PT.

Peace,

Kevin Hodgson and Harriet Kulig, Western Massachusetts Writing Project, with Springfield Armory Park Ranger Wesley Kocurek
