Dear Colleagues,
As you make plans for next week’s IWCA conference, we want to invite you to attend the inaugural meeting of the Linguistic Justice Special Interest Group, scheduled for 12:00 pm Eastern on Tuesday, October 22nd.
Emily Bouza and I proposed this SIG in order to build on the interest generated by our spring 2024 guest edited special issue of The Peer Review: Enacting Linguistic Justice In/Through Writing Centers, in which a diverse range of writing center scholars shared their efforts to put linguistic justice into practice. We hope that through this SIG, we can establish a space where writing center practitioners can discuss linguistic justice and related topics (such as translingualism, critical language awareness, raciolinguistics, and second language writing), develop some shared goals, and work together to create resources for enacting linguistic justice in our centers and campus communities.
No prior experience or expertise in linguistic justice is required–this SIG is open to everyone! We hope to see you there!
