MISE EN PLACE: The 2025 Writing Innovation Symposium (WIS)
January 30-31 at Marquette U in Milwaukee, WI
THE REMINDER: Proposals for WIS ’25 flashtalks, workshops, posters, artifacts, displays, performances, installations, and Bedford/St. Martin WIS 2025 Fellowships are due one week from today on 10/25. Undergraduate sparks and flares are due 12/6, and registration opens next month.
THE UPDATE: Since we last wrote, things have really been falling into place for mise en place:
- To start, we have already received some stellar proposals across program categories! We hope you’ll keep your good work and ideas coming . . . .
- We are thrilled to announce Dr. Ashley Beardsley (Western IL U) will be leading the opening plenary! On Thursday, 1/30, she will host a conversation about food and community with local food industry folks, including 3-time James Beard nominee Chef Greg Léon (Amilinda) . . . .
- We are arranging an optional after-lunch opportunity on Friday, 1/31 to tour Concordia 27, a local community space with a commercial kitchen that provides thousands of meals daily to local schools and residents.
Don’t miss your chance to participate—or contribute to the inaugural WIS Community Cookbook. All past and 2025 WIStians will have an opportunity to share an original recipe.
Program notifications will begin in early November, and event registration will open soon after that. Read the full CFP here <https://bit.ly/WIS2025CFP>, apply here: <https://bit.ly/WIS25Prop>, and be in touch with questions—
