Description

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) invites letters of application from candidates interested in teaching in the Professional Communication & Information Design (PCID) program and in participating in the operations of the new Interdisciplinary Studies department. The position is scheduled to start January 2, 2025.

The PCID program is particularly interested in those candidates prepared to teach Business Communication & Information Design, Technical Communication & Information Design and Science Communication & Information Design. In their letters of interest, applicants should discuss relevant teaching experience, including their engagements with technical and professional communication in academic, interdisciplinary, and community contexts.

Responsibilities of PCID Faculty (these responsibilities may be modified with development of the position):

1. Teach four PCID courses per semester, either online or in-person.

2. Coordinate with the PCID Program Director and other PCID faculty in order to ensure alignment of student learning outcomes and course objectives with the needs of students from a wide range of disciplines.

3. Attend professional development opportunities provided by the department or by the Office of Teaching Effectiveness and Innovation to ensure compliance with Clemson policy and command of up-to-date teaching methods and practices for these courses.

4. Work with the Interdisciplinary Studies Chair and other faculty to fulfill service opportunities for the department and/or the university through standing and ad hoc committees, as needed.

5. Generally, assist in the development of the new interdisciplinary studies department, its mission, its outreach, and its academic reputation on campus.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements for the position: MA in Rhetoric, Writing, Communication or related discipline.

Preferred qualifications for the position: PhD in Rhetoric, Writing, Communication or related discipline. Workplace experience.
