Hi everyone,
I am excited to announce that Indiana State University is hiring a tenure-track assistant professor specializing in New Media and Professional Writing. Review of applications will begin on 11/15.
The position will have affiliate faculty status with the Department of Theater and, in addition to teaching in the Department of English, will teach in their upcoming Media Production major.
The successful candidate will teach English 313 New Media Writing, English 405 Professional Writing and Community Engagement, first-year and junior composition, and courses in the new Media Production major in Theater. Faculty with an active research agenda teach a 3/3 load.
In the Department of English, we have a new Rhetoric and Professional Writing major and minor concentration that we are very excited about. There will be opportunities to develop new undergraduate courses within the concentration, as well as opportunities to teach in our graduate program.
Here is the official job description (linked in full below):
The Departments of English and Theater at Indiana State University invite candidates to apply for the position of Assistant Professor of English with a focus on New Media and Professional Writing, beginning August 2025. The successful candidate will have affiliate faculty status in Theater and will contribute to multiple programs including the English/Professional Writing major and minor and the upcoming Media Production major and minor.
Teaching responsibilities will include New Media Writing, Public and Professional Writing, and Technical Writing (which serves as a required junior composition course in the University Foundational Studies program), as well as other courses in English or Theater as interest and need align. All faculty teach in the Foundational Studies program in addition to their major/minor/graduate classes, and perform service for the Department, College, and University. Faculty with ongoing research agendas typically teach 3 courses per semester.
Applicants must have a terminal degree in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or a related field and be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Applicants with expertise in digital media or digital humanities or research specialization in User Experience (UX) and/or User Interface (UI) design are especially encouraged to apply. In consideration of the multidisciplinary nature of this position, secondary expertise in screenwriting, creative writing, or a literary field would be welcome but not required. We seek a candidate who can contribute to ongoing curricular and faculty development for the New Media Writing class, the upcoming Media Production major and minor, and the Professional Writing concentration of the English major and minor.
I am on the search committee but not chairing it. If you have any questions, I am happy to answer them, or I can share them with someone who can.
