About Washburn:
Washburn requires two composition classes for all undergraduate majors, and most bachelor’s degrees also require a third, upper division writing class. All faculty in the English department teach composition, and the teaching of writing is highly valued within the department and the university as a whole.
Washburn is a teaching-focused, open admissions, emerging HSI, so candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching composition to students of all backgrounds. We are also interested in candidates who have experience teaching developmental writing, scientific and technical writing, professional writing, and/or graduate level professional writing. Our department has a co-requisite first year writing program, oversees a writing center, and is involved in the university’s correctional degree program at the local women’s prison.
If you have questions about the position, you are welcome to reach out to me or the search committee chairs listed in the job description.
Sincerely,
Melanie Burdick
