Dear Writing Center Colleagues,
I am writing to invite you to participate in an IRB approved research study to capture the unique experiences of writing center administrators who occupy non-tenure track or contingent positions, specifically at small liberal arts colleges. A primary goal of this study is to give voice to unique experiences of writing center administrators whose lived experiences remain mostly absent in current scholarship.
In order to gather information about writing center administrators at small liberal arts colleges lived experiences, such as their expected labor, material conditions, and tutor training procedures, participants are asked to fill out this Qualtrics Survey.
You are eligible to participate in this study if both:
- You are a writing center administrator who works/worked off the tenure track
- You work at a small liberal arts college.
The survey should take about 30 minutes to complete and you are welcome to skip any questions you do not want to answer. As part of the survey, you will be able to select whether you are willing to participate in a 60-minute follow-up interview. You will only be asked to share your name and email if you choose to participate in a follow up interview. These names and addresses will only be shared with the researcher. Participants’ names and home institutions will not be shared in any published material resulting from the study. You will never be asked to share any information you deem compromising to yourself or your home institution. Any information you choose to share is completely up to you.
Participation in this study will offer you the opportunity to participate in discourse that is relevant to the field of writing center studies. Your participation will also help to illustrate the experiences of writing center administrators who do not occupy tenure track positions at small liberal arts colleges.
If you have decided to participate in this project, please understand that your participation is voluntary and that you have the right to withdraw your consent or discontinue participation at any time with no penalty. You also have the right to refuse to answer any question(s) for any reason with no penalty.
If you have any questions regarding this project, you may contact the researcher at a.presswood . If you have questions regarding your rights as research participant or any concerns regarding this project, you may report them – confidentially, if you wish – to the University Campus Institutional Review Board Chairperson atIRB.
Sincerely,
