Survey: Labor of Writing Center Directors of Color Survey and Interview Opportunity

Hello!

My name is Eduardo Mabilog, and I have worked in writing centers in the past and am currently focusing my graduate research on the experiences of writing center directors of color. This work is especially interested in looking at the descriptions of labor and the contexts that directors of color work in. To participate in this IRB approved project, I am looking for participants who self-identify as being a person of color and are currently in some capacity a writing center director role. If you or someone you know fits this description, please consider participating. I am particularly using the term writing center director broadly here. By this I am thinking of general administrators who oversee the oversight of a space and staff that is implicated in the development of student writing, reading, or communication through the utilization of tutors, consultants, or other form of staff that work with and review writing, reading, or other communication materials. Likewise, such administrators may include lead directors, assistant directors, coordinators or other administrative titled staff.

to a demographic survey that I am conducting to better understand the contexts writing center directors of color are working in. The first page contains a detailed description of the study as well as a consent form. In that survey there will also be an option to opt in for two follow up interviews. You will be asked varying questions about your role, how long you have been in your position and the contexts of your institution (such as student enrolment and demographic information).

Follow-up interviews will take place in two parts. One interview will ask initial questions about experiences and labor as a director of color and the second interview will assess initial patterns identified in the first interview and ask follow up questions. If you choose to participate in these interviews, you will receive an incentive in the form of a $25 digital gift card.

Participation in the study is completely voluntary. I hope you or others you share this information with will consider participating. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Kind regards,

Eduardo
