Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Tutoring Services on the Gainesville campus. The Writing Center Assistant Director of Tutoring Services is responsible for operations, development, and supervision of the Writing Center at the UNG Gainesville campus and of writing tutors employed by Tutoring Services across all UNG campuses in Blue Ridge, Cumming, Dahlonega, Oconee, and university-wide online writing service platforms. This includes directing Writing Center operational activities and assisting with the hiring, training, and supervising of staff tutors and student workers.
Responsibilities
- Manage operations over five campuses and online services to provide staffing, supervision, evaluation, and training of writing tutors to assist students across all UNG colleges to include, but not limited to, business, nursing, science courses in APA 7th, MLA, Chicago Style formating, composition, reading, and other writing related assignments for multiple subjects. Assigned campuses include Blue Ridge, Cumming, Dahlonega, Gainesville, Oconee, and university-wide online writing service platforms.
- Work as a part of the Tutoring Services leadership team to develop and implement academic support activities to increase student retention and graduation rates and to collaborate with other departments to develop student-focused projects and services.
- Read student essays and make suggestions for improvement including instruction in the proper use of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Explain any instructor corrections. Assist with Works Cited, resumés, cover letters, etc.
- Develop, update, and oversee CRLA-compliant training for student writing tutors employed by Tutoring Services on all campuses.
- Research and identify other writing center programs at peer institutions and on-campus to integrate best current research practices for effective student session writing support. Collect and analyze program and institutional data to evaluate effectiveness of writing services provided, and to guide administrative decisions in determining writing center operations.
- Serve on university committees, participate in professional development opportunities, and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Tutoring Services.

- Strong command of English grammar, pedagogy, and Writing Center theory.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Strong teaching and presentation abilities.
- Proven ability to multi-task and manage staff and student workers.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in English or Writing related field required.
- Three (3) years of experience in tutoring center development in a higher education setting required.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD preferred.
