CFP: MLA 2026 Panel: Teaching Comfort, Confidence, or Courage

Colleagues,

Considering a trip to MLA 2026 (Jan. 1-11, Toronto)? Then we have a panel for you (to join).

Julie Bowman and I are organizing a session proposal on the theme "Pedagogical Criss-Crossing: Comfort, Confidence, and Courage" with the prompt: How do we, as humanities teachers, theorize, prioritize, or operationalize the sometimes overlapping, sometimes opposing, classroom ideals of comfort, confidence, and courage?

We are asking for 250-word presentation abstracts plus 205-word academic bios by March 12, emailed to me (ateagarden) and Julie (jbowman1).

If the panel sounds interesting, we hope you’ll pitch us a proposal. And I’m happy to answer questions off-list if you’d like to discuss a proposal ahead of time.
