Description

Governors State University (University Park IL) is a minority-serving institution inviting applications for a full-time Visiting Faculty position in English to begin in the Fall 2025 semester. This position is a 12-month contract with a teaching load of 27 credit hours (9 courses) across Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. A Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric or a related English Studies field is required. ABD applicants must be scheduled to complete their degree by June 1.

Essential Responsibilities

We seek candidates with a strong capacity and passion for teaching, interest and experience working with diverse and non-traditional student populations, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. A strong interest in first-year writing is essential, as the candidate will primarily teach first-year writing coursework with some opportunities to teach in the English BA program.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric or a related English Studies field; ABD with scheduled defense by June 1 will also be considered.
  2. Significant experience teaching First-Year Composition.
  3. Experience teaching online courses.
  4. Evidence of teaching excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Scholarly and pedagogic interest in first-year writing curriculum.
  2. Experience teaching advanced coursework in rhetoric and composition.
  3. Teaching and research interests that will be of interest to our student population as a minority-serving institution.
  4. Experience teaching advanced coursework in rhetoric and composition.
  5. Teaching and research interests that will be of interest to our student population as an MSI.
