Survey: Metacognition and GenAI: Exploring the College Composition Faculty’s Metacognitive Strategies for Deve loping Students’ Ethical Use of GenAI in the U.S.

Dear Composition Instructor,

My name is Sayed Ali Reza Ahmadi. I am an Assistant Professor of Writing at Kenai Peninsula College, University of Alaska Anchorage. I am conducting a research study titled “Metacognition and GenAI: Exploring the College Composition Faculty’s Metacognitive Strategies for Developing Students’ Ethical Use of GenAI in the U.S.”. I am writing to invite you to take part in a short survey on this study. The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

The survey is found here: https://uaa.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1Gj3BdKgsT32jEW

This study explores how college composition instructors (CCIs) use metacognition to facilitate students’ ethical use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and what particular metacognitive strategies they employ to develop students’ ethical use of GenAI in college composition classes in the United States. The primary purpose of this study is to explore the level of CCIs’ understanding of metacognition in teaching composition for developing students’ ethical awareness to use GenAI in writing. The secondary purpose is to explore the ways by which the CCIs use to develop students’ ethical awareness of using GenAI in writing. In the same vein, the tertiary purpose of this study is to investigate the ways in which the CCIs assess students’ metacognition awareness of using GenAI in writing.
