CFP: Teaching Creative Writing at the Community College and Other Student-Centered Writing Programs

TCWCC Proposals 2025
Metropolitan Community College in Omaha is accepting proposals for our 3rd annual conference on Teaching Creative Writing at the Community College and Other Student-Centered Writing Programs.

Over the past two years, we’ve been energized to hear from colleagues across the country about innovative approaches to teaching, hands-on writing exercises, grading philosophies, and navigating the unique challenges that come with teaching in smaller and/or open-enrollment institutions. We’re excited to continue this conversation and, this year, invite submissions on the theme of “Joy.” As writers, we know that an artist’s path will be filled with obstacles, both material and creative, and we strongly believe that joy shores us up, helps us find our way back to the page, and can be a tremendous source of inspiration for our students and ourselves.

We are inviting proposals from instructors who teach or aspire to teach creative writing, especially those that center the needs of first-year writing students. We are interested in workshop practices, assignment ideas, grading philosophies, building reading lists, sharing syllabi and other artifacts. Many of us teach more traditional composition classes than we do creative writing courses, and so we would welcome sessions on how our work as writers and creative writing teachers informs our composition classrooms. We are also interested in discussions about program administration, community outreach, and supporting the specific needs of CW faculty. Specifically, we want to hear how you bring joy into your practice as a teacher and as a writer. Panel presentations, guided discussions, and collaborative sessions are all welcome.
Sessions will be 60 minutes and can include 1-5 presenters.

We strongly encourage past presenters to submit again. We know we have much more to learn from you and are eager to welcome you back to Omaha.
