Survey: Interview Study on Writing Center Staffing

Hello!

My name is Beth Towle, and I am an Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the University Writing Center at Salisbury University. I would like to invite you to participate in my research study to understand values and practices around writing center tutor staffing. In particular, I am interested in learning about how writing center directors develop their processes over time, as well as how they manage challenges around recruitment and hiring presented by institutions, legal entities, and technology. You may participate if you are a writing center administrator who has some level of oversight over the hiring process for tutors.

As a participant, you will be asked to participate in a 60-minute, audio-recorded Zoom interview. The risks to this study are minimal but can include discomfort in talking about challenges of hiring and navigating institutional or legal systems, as well as the loss of time for the interview itself. All information will be kept confidential and private, and pseudonyms will be used for all participants. All participants will be provided with a consent form that must be signed to participate.

Participation is voluntary. Participation in this study will not impact your standing or relationship with Salisbury University or the University Writing Center.

If you would like to participate in this research study, please email me at this address (batowle). If you have questions, please contact me via email at batowle or by phone at (410) 546-2883.

If you have any adverse effects or concerns about the research, please contact the primary investigator Beth Towle at the phone number above or the Office of Graduate Studies and Research at Salisbury University at 410-548-3549 or toll free 1-888-543-0148. This research is approved by the Salisbury University’s IRB under protocol number 490.

Thank you for your consideration,
Beth Towle
