CFP: CCCC 2026 Cognition and Writing Standing Interest Group, Sponsored Panel

Hello from the CCCC Cognition and Writing Standing Interest Group!

We are inviting proposals for our 2026 Sponsored Panel (and/or Workshops), which will focus on the role that cognition plays in the conversations we have in our teaching, researching, and conferencing.

We understand cognition in any number of ways: psychological, phenomenological, neuroscientific, psycholinguistic, etc. We are especially happy to see proposals that can help us do any of the following:

  • Improve discourse in our classrooms through attention to our students’ thinking;
  • Deepen our understanding of how the mind informs the process of writing and/or reading;
  • Help us better engage with cognitively diverse students;
  • Explore reflective and metacognitive pedagogies and theories of writing; or
  • Investigate anything else that is useful or interesting about writing-related thinking and cognition.

Click here to submit your proposal or express interest in joining an existing proposal.

Please also take a look at the CCCC 2026 general Call for Proposals. If you would like to see our existing proposals, you can view them on our Cognition and Writing Planning Document.

Important dates:

Sunday, May 18th at noon (EST) – Deadline for submitting a proposal (panel or workshop) to the Cognition and Writing SIG

Monday, May 19th – Proposal decision meeting (on Zoom), open to all who have submitted or joined a proposal

We are quite happy to receive panel ideas from all who are interested: graduate students, tenure- and non-tenure track faculty, independent scholars, administrators of writing programs or writing centers, or anyone else.

To newer scholars – This is an especially good opportunity to get a conference presentation under your belt. SIG Sponsored Panels are guaranteed acceptance by CCCC, so if your proposal (or a proposal you’ve expressed interest in joining) ends up being the one we select, you are automatically in for next year’s conference.

Lastly, are you interested in getting involved with Cognition and Writing, more generally? If so, email Fain Riopelle (fainriopelle) or Bonnie Vidrine-Isbell (bonnie.vidrine-isbell) to join our Google Group!

Warm regards,

S. Fain Riopelle
