Position Title: Visiting Assistant Professor of Writing, Rhetoric, and Information Design

Department: School of Communication – University of Central Arkansas

Position Summary:
The University of Central Arkansas visiting faculty is responsible for teaching, research and service. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. The position is non-tenure track and a one-year appointment. Housed in the School of Communication the Writing, Rhetoric, and Information Design Program seeks candidates for a 9-month Visiting Assistant Professor position (beginning August 16, 2025).

Job Duties and Responsibilities: Teach in the Technical and Professional Writing and Writing Studies tracks of our major. Teaching load is 4/4 (12 hours per semester). Applicants should have a background in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, Technical and Professional Writing, or a closely related field and experience teaching college writing. In addition to teaching courses in the major, duties include introductory courses in the First-Year Writing Program.

Required Education and/or Experience: PhD in Technical and Professional Writing, Writing Studies, Rhetoric and Composition, or a closely related field. Experience teaching college writing and evidence of excellence in teaching required. Candidates must have a genuine interest in general education instruction, assessment, and program initiatives.

Preferred Education and/or Experience: Evidence of advancing inclusive pedagogies that meet the educational aspirations of a diverse student body is integral. Applicants will also have a clear research agenda that connects with their areas of specialization. Specializations might include Editing, Publishing, Technical Writing, Rhetorical Theory, and/or Information Design.
