The Long Part:
I’m writing to ask for your assistance in sharing an opportunity with colleagues in your department or institution who might be interested in contributing to an upcoming edited volume.

Dr. Mary Frances Zawadzki (University of Mississippi) and I are developing an edited volume titled "The Hydra: The Many Approaches to Generative AI in the Art and Design Classroom." This collection grew from Dr. Zawadzki’s chaired CAA panel earlier this year, which featured presentations on the evolving landscape of AI in college arts education. Speakers explored AI use policies in art appreciation courses, evaluated AI’s capabilities in art historical research, examined its integration in cultural heritage contexts, and shared experiences designing assignments that foster creativity alongside these new tools. The panel also addressed crucial questions about AI’s impact on cultural representation and provided insights into implementing AI in graphic design education.

The rich diversity of approaches presented at CAA showcased that art + design instructors need a comprehensive resource capturing how educators across institutions are addressing this technological shift. We’re seeking contributions from faculty at all career stages who are developing creative solutions, confronting challenges, or exploring the pedagogical implications of generative AI in art + design college classrooms.

We welcome submissions exploring alternative assignments designed to work with or around generative AI, teaching strategies for creative classrooms, case studies of student engagement with these tools, and specific applications being implemented in visual arts education. Contributors might come from art history, visual culture, fine art, design, architecture, fashion design, animation, film production, arts education, museum studies, or related disciplines.

If you know colleagues who are thoughtfully engaging with AI in their teaching practice, we would greatly appreciate your help in sharing this call. The complete CFP is attached, with abstracts of 300-500 words due by July 15, 2025.

Thank you for helping us reach potential contributors across our diverse field. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or read the CFP here, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tgbZnYP1RzHbsh5tzj_rHuaUoVeiX0yp/view
