Survey: research on emotions, AI, and the writing process

Hi Everyone,

I would greatly appreciate it if you’d share my short dissertation research survey with your graduate and undergraduate students. It takes about 10 minutes to complete and has the option for students to participate in the next 2 stages of my research (an observation and interview) with a chance to win a drawing if all stages are completed. I’d love to have participants with perspectives across the U.S., education levels, majors, and dis/ability statuses. This research will help us understand our students’ experiences with and feelings about AI use during the writing process.

Thanks for your time and consideration. I can be reached at SJ.Williamson if you have questions for me.

Dear students:

I am a PhD student in the English department at North Dakota State University (NDSU), and I am conducting a research study to understand the different impacts on college student AI use during the writing process. Some of the impacts I am interested in studying include emotional affect, neurodivergence, and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT).

If you are a college student, you are invited to participate in this study by completing a short 10 to 15-minute survey on AI beliefs and emotional experiences. On the link or QR code below, you can agree to participate in this study by taking the survey and learn more information about how your privacy will be protected should you agree to participate.

At the end of the survey, there will be an optional invitation to participate in the next stage of this study. It includes a Zoom recording of you using AI during a writing task and a one-on-one interview to talk about your writing process using AI. If you complete the survey, the Zoom recording, and the post-recording interview, you will be entered in a drawing to receive one of four $20 Amazon gift cards.

If you have any questions about the study, please contact me, S.J. Williamson, at SJ.Williamson or contact the principal investigator, Dr. Lisa Arnold, at Lisa.R.Arnold.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

S.J. Williamson, M.A.
