Event: Talk & Workshop 9/19 – International and Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Responsible Quantum Technologies

Hello all,

I am coordinating two back-to-back events on Friday 9/19 that might be of interest to some on this list.

On Friday 9/19 from 11-12 (PDT), the College of Information Science at the University of Arizona is hosting Dr. Allison Fish from the University of Queensland for the talk, "Social, Legal and Regulatory Issues Emerging From Frontier Science: A Case Study of Quantum Biotechnology."

Afterwards, from 1-3 (PDT) the Center for Quantum Networks will also be hosting with Allison the interactive workshop, "International and Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Responsible Quantum Technologies: A Focus on Societal, Legal and Policy." The workshop will feature two guest speakers, Farai Mazhandu from the Africa Quantum Consortium and Kai-Chi Chang from UCLA, and we will talk about the social science and humanistic complexities of quantum science and technology. The workshop will be hosted by Dr. Fish, as well as other writing and communications scholars Drs. Sean Moxley-Kelly (ASU), Tracey Hayes (Gonzaga), and me, Sarah Young (UA).

Both events are free, can be attended online via Zoom, and prior background in quantum science and/or technologies is helpful but not required.

More information about Allison’s talk can be found here: https://infosci.arizona.edu/events/2025/allison-fish

Thanks,
