CFP: Activities & Assignments Archive @ Writing Spaces

Call for Proposals: Activities & Assignments Archive @ Writing Spaces
Writing Spaces: Readings on Writing, an open textbook series for undergraduate composition, is now seeking proposals for the Activities & Assignments Archive. As an open-access companion resource to the Writing Spaces textbook series, the Activities & Assignments Archive offers pedagogical resources grounded in current practice and scholarship. Each document presents a pedagogical activity or assignment curated by teacher-scholars for writing students and reviewed by the Writing Spaces editorial team.
We invite proposals on a wide range of topics in writing studies. In particular, we would appreciate contributions that focus on the following topics or approaches:

  • Embodied approaches to writing – actively and relationally engaging with writing concepts and skills. Think: theatre games transposed into activities or assignments. Activities involving moving around the classroom are welcome, as long as accessibility is considered.
  • Generative AI – emphasizing critique and rhetorical action that is in line with recent writing studies scholarship and tech developments.
  • Teaching grammatical skills, through the frameworks of critical language awareness, linguistic justice and/or language diversity, while making grammar fun and interactive.
  • Activities and assignments teaching writing for wider accessibility and a wider audience, such as writing with sound. (Note: we’re trying to think beyond general multimodal assignments; instead leaning into specific, alternate ways of getting a message or narrative across).
  • Activities and assignments stemming from trauma-informed pedagogies and that honor students’ authentic lived experience.

Each proposal should consist of a 300-word abstract that clearly summarizes the proposed activity or assignment. If you have not taught with or used the Activities & Assignments Archive on Writing Spaces yet, please make sure to familiarize yourself with the current publications. Proposals are due no later than December 4th, 2025, and are to be submitted as a .doc, .pdf, .rtf, or .odt file via email to writingspacestextsbooks, with “AAA Proposal, ” in the subject line. Editors will review proposals by January 16th, 2026 and will invite selected authors to submit full-length manuscripts by February 23rd, 2026. Since the review process involves only the editorial team, contributors can expect a request for revisions by April 23rd, 2026 with finalized revisions due by May 23rd, 2026. The final publication to the AAA website is expected to occur by July 1st, 2026.
Finally, please note that we already have an abundance of strong assignments and activities in some areas, and so are not looking to add assignments and activities that focus on multimodal composing, argument, and research. We also encourage you to look over the current AAA and suggest activities and assignments in areas that seem to be missing to you!
Please email any questions or concerns to writingspacestextbooks, attn: David Coad, Matt Vetter, Bryna Siegel Finer, or Brian Ernst.
