Event: Doc consortium open meeting on Graduate Curricula & Teaching Support

Dear Colleagues:

A reminder about an online meeting hosted by the Consortium of Doctoral Programs in Rhetoric and Composition: Join our Zoom event, “Graduate-Level Program Design, Pedagogy, and Mentoring" on Monday, November 3, 6:00pm-7:30pm (EST). The discussion anticipates our 2026 CCCC sponsored panel, “Faculty and Student Perspectives on Graduate-Level Pedagogy.” During the Zoom meeting, we’ll focus on principles that inform your graduate curriculum in rhetoric and composition and on current or planned forms of support for graduate-level teachers. Participants will have the opportunity to share information, concerns, and questions in small groups, after which we’ll convene a large group discussion, the key points of which will be transcribed and shared on the CDPRC website. Our guiding questions for group discussion will be as follows:

  • What values and/or beliefs inform the shape and substance of your curriculum and/or program? For example, does your curriculum prepare students for academic teaching; if so, at what kinds of institutions? Does it prepare students for other kinds of academic positions (student learning center, instructional design, writing center or writing across the curriculum positions, etc.)? Does your curriculum include explicit preparation for non-academic work?
  • What does graduate-level pedagogy support for faculty look like in your program? What could it look like if it doesn’t yet exist? What should support or mentorship prioritize? What key differences do you see between teaching undergraduate and graduate courses?

We invite researchers, teachers, and graduate students in the field to join us!
