JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of English at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the Associate Professor rank in Rhetoric and Writing Studies with expertise in Multilingual Writing. Areas of focus can include Translanguaging, Multimodality, Accessibility, and Artificial Intelligence. Candidates with an interest in Writing Program Administration and the directing our First Year Writing program are preferred. Responsibilities include conducting and publishing research, seeking and securing extramural funding, teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, mentoring doctoral students and chairing/serving on PhD committees, and serving the department, university, and profession. Salary and startup packages will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Rhetoric and Writing Studies/Composition, Technical Communication, English, or a related field by time of hire;
  • Research focus in multilingual writing within rhetorical studies, writing/composition studies, or technical communication;
  • Established publication and teaching record at rank of associate professor or higher;
  • Experience mentoring graduate students in thesis and/or dissertation research.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Administrative experience and interest in Writing Program Administration;
  • Record of scholarship supported by funding as evidenced by fellowships and/or grants;
  • Fluency in language(s) other than English, particularly Spanish.
