#GradScool: TCU RC Grad Programs Virtual Open House—Nov. 18

The graduate faculty in Rhetoric and Composition at TCU are excited to invite prospective students to a virtual open house on Tuesday, November 18 at 5:00 pm CST – RSVP to receive the Zoom link (register here). At the event, faculty will discuss our graduate offerings, including the tuition-free MA in English and fully-funded PhD in Rhetoric and Composition. These programs are accepting applications through January 20, 2026.

Housed in TCU’s Department of English, the programs in Rhetoric and Composition (R/C) are among the oldest and most respected in the field. While studying with us, students receive a strong grounding in rhetorical theory, composition pedagogy, and disciplinary histories with opportunities to develop interdisciplinary methodologies and unique research agendas that will shape the future of rhetorical education. Our seven dedicated graduate faculty in R/C are nationally recognized teacher-scholars with a range of expertise:

  • Carmen Kynard, Lillian Radford Chair & Professor: Black feminisms & girlhood; AfroDigital/Black language; politics of schooling
  • Charlotte Hogg, Professor: women’s rhetorics; rural literacies; creative nonfiction
  • Brad Lucas, Associate Dean & Professor: research methods; social movements; technical & professional communication
  • Jason Helms, Director of the Center for Digital Expression & Associate Professor: visual culture; new media & digital humanities; critical theory
  • Gavin P. Johnson, Director of Composition & Assistant Professor: critical composition/university studies; surveillance rhetorics; queer praxis
  • Ismael Quiñones, Assistant Professor: rhetorics of migration; decolonial speech; histories of rhetoric
  • Mohammed Iddrisu, Assistant Professor: global Black rhetorics; community & cultural literacies; antiracist pedagogies

Students admitted to the PhD in Rhetoric and Composition will enjoy small class sizes, individualized mentoring, five years fully funded, 1/1 teaching load, travel support, fellowship opportunities, experience in research and/or administrative positions, and strong job placement.
