New: Graphic RHM Column Published!

The co-editors of Graphic RHM, a digital column of the journal Rhetoric of Health & Medicine inventing uses of comics in our field, are pleased to announce that the second column has now been published and can be found here: https://medicalrhetoric.com/graphicRHM/home/archive/column-2/.

Column 2, attached to issue 9.1 of the journal where you can find a teaser for the digital column, features an introduction by co-editors Catherine Gouge and Blake Scott about ways to get involved in the growing Graphic RHM community, along with comics and artist statements by Ann E. Fink, Nathan Holic and Sharon Imes, Lisa DeTora, Caitlin Cook (aka cooklin), and Erin Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald’s contribution is the second installment (following her comic in Column 1) of a series about “response cartooning” as a therapeutic method. Fink’s and DeTora’s contributions are the first of their new series about the labor of grief and redefinitions of abortion, respectively. Together, the comics and artist statements in Column 2 explore experiences with and comic-based responses to mental stress, questions about the sociocultural and justice-oriented dimensions of health and healthcare, and comics as research tools and rhetorical methodologies.

You’ll notice that Graphic RHM has a new-and-improved design for easier, more accessible viewing and downloading. For more about submitting to the column or even just having a conversation with the editors about submitting, see the column home page: https://medicalrhetoric.com/graphicRHM/home/archive/column-2/.

Finally, Catherine and Blake would like to give a special shout-out to RHM Associate Editor Mollie Stambler, who was the primary engine behind the new Graphic RHM website, Column 2 preparation, and corresponding Column 1 reformatting. Her expertise, recommendations, and timeliness were invaluable.
