Greetings!
The Sophist’s Cookbook is a collection of recipes and reflections for those who believe that how we speak and write—and how we eat and cook—are noble crafts. We are seeking culinary contributions that pair a rhetorical concept or origin story with a literal dish. Whether you are serving up “Persuader Spaghetti” (promptly re-engineered), "Socratic Stew" (leaving you feeling emptier than when you started) or a "Five-Canon Margarita" (perfectly arranged for maximum impact), we want to hear the stories behind the plate. These are our applications, our concoctions for the ages.
Jimmy Butts, Matthew Blakesley, and I are keeping the proposal window open a little while longer for The Sophist’s Cookbook! If you have an idea for a recipe and a story, submit your proposal now!

We’re only asking for a title and 50-75 words to start by March 2. You’ll learn quickly if we want more. The initial deadline is soon (March 2). We already have 60 entries and are aiming for 90-100, so act quickly. If you want to jump straight to the proposal form (and bypass the fancier Kraa page), it’s here: https://bit.ly/sophists-cookbook-proposals.
The book will be published by Parlor Press and released at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026 (!).
Cheers,
Dave Blakesley
