Hello, writing center colleagues. I have been hosting a series of virtual brown bag meetings for late career and retired writing center directors and professionals. Anyone is welcome to join!
Our upcoming virtual brown bag for Friday, 2/20, 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. EST will feature a special topic. Regular attendee, Kathy Cain, will talk to us about the work she, Leigh Ryan, and Pam Childers have done with surveying and studying former writing center directors. Pam Childers, Leigh Ryan, and Kathy Cain embarked on what was supposed to be a one-year project surveying former writing center directors to get a sense of how their wc experiences have informed their life and work after leaving the center. Eight years, multiple conference presentations, one SIG, and several book chapters later, as well as the devastating loss of friend/colleague Leigh, the project appears to be nearing its conclusion. Pam and Kathy will talk briefly about the origins of the project, what it revealed about people’s lives after the writing center, and the development and continuation of the IWCA Special Interest Group for Past, Present, and Future Writing Center Directors.
