Event: Tutor Talks – February 27 – Navigating AI Literacy for Writing Center Tutors

Dear Writing Center Tutors and Consultants,

Join us for something different on Friday, February 27th, at 11:30 AM CST (12:30 PM EST / 9:30 AM PST), when we’ll hold our sixth Tutor Talks session of the 2025-26 year: Making New Maps: Navigating AI Literacy for Writing Center Tutors.

When we asked tutors around the country what topics they most wanted to discuss and share strategies for, our top request was for more guidance on AI. Even as surveys show up to 86% of college students report using generative AI programs, universities have been slow to offer guidance on adapting our pedagogical strategies to this new environment. As Writing Center tutors, we have to decide how to navigate these conversations every day, making our way through a complicated patchwork of different policies offered by different professors, ever-proliferating types of AI integration, and new citation rules to account for new types of AI use. In this session, we’ll offer both insights on new developments and guided questions to enable participants to crowdsource our knowledge, sharing our pedagogical strategies and insights with other tutors.

Please note: this will be a special edition of Tutor Talks, as it will be a part of the 2026 South Central Writing Centers Association (SCWCA) Annual Conference! Instead of our usual online-only Wednesday meetings, this Tutor Talks will be a hybrid Friday event, bringing together in-person conference attendees and online participants.

If you’d like to participate online, don’t worry–you do NOT need to register for the conference. Just RSVP through the Google Form at the bottom of this email, and we’ll send you a Zoom link on the day of the session. Because this Tutor Talks will be a part of the SCWCA Conference schedule, it will be a uniquely visible and public session. We want to make sure attendees are aware that this session may be witnessed by in-person conference attendees, including administrators.

Tutor Talks is a tutor-focused forum (“for tutors, by tutors”) of virtual professional development sessions for writing center tutors. The aim of the sessions is to create an open discussion for tutors to support and learn from one another. Members of the Tutor Talks Executive Committee will have some discussion topics/questions prepared for the group, but we also encourage attendees to take the lead in guiding discussion, sharing their experiences in their Writing Centers.

Writing tutors and consultants from all over (not just the SCWCA region!) are welcome. Directors/administrators, because these sessions are tutor-focused, we ask that you not attend them yourselves. However, please share with your tutors and encourage them to take advantage of these fun and informative opportunities to learn and connect! Also note that, to ensure a safe and comfortable space for all, sessions will not be recorded.

Tutors: Please RSVP through this Google Form. The Zoom link will be sent out on the day of the session. (Please check your spam folder if you do not receive the link.) If you’ll be attending the conference in-person, no need to RSVP–though we’d love it if you did!

Sincerely,

Tutor Talks Executive Committee
