Dear Colleagues,
I’m excited to announce the publication of a new book from Computers and Composition Digital Press — Visualizing Captions and Subtitles: The Embodiment of Accessible Multimodal Communication by Janine Butler.
In Visualizing Captions and Subtitles, Janine Butler visualizes captions and subtitles as instruments of connection that embody how we all communicate with each other through multiple modes and languages, including bodies, voices, and signs. To identify the affordances of captions and subtitles of all designs—at the bottom of the screen, in the space of the screen, layered with other features of the screen, and other designs—this book is an exploration of meaningful examples of captions and subtitles that make multimodal and multilingual communication accessible to audiences with any hearing level.
And as a first for CCDP readers, you can download and read this book in your preferred format: pdf, epub, or on the web through the html version. Read/download the book here: https://ccdigitalpress.org/visualizing-captions
As always, Computers and Composition Digital Press titles are open access.
Best,
