About this position

McPherson College seeks an enthusiastic student-centered professor to join the English Department for the 2026-27 academic year as an Assistant Professor of English. This is a full-time, tenure-track position.

The successful candidate will assume responsibility for providing 24 credit hours of instruction in English per academic year. The person in this appointment will primarily teach composition, maintain regular office hours, attend meetings, assist with advising and recruiting, participate in the governance of the college, and perform other duties within the scope of this position as assigned.

A Ph.D. degree in English is preferred (ABD candidates as well as candidates with Masters degrees will also be considered for this appointment). The ideal candidate is a writing specialist committed to innovation in composition instruction. Strong candidates will also have teaching or scholarly experience in college composition, technical writing, professional writing, business writing, medical writing, and/or creative writing. Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of high-quality teaching experience at the collegiate level. Demonstrated knowledge of assessment practices in composition is required. Candidates must possess the ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods, relate to diverse students, and facilitate student learning.
