Event: Social Justice at the Convention Committee (SJAC), 4Cs26

Dear Colleagues,

For those attending CCCCs this week, the Social Justice at the Convention Committee hopes to see you at one or more of the following events:

  • Trivia Night at Mallorca: Thursday, March 5, 6-8 p.m. at Mallorca, 1390 W 9th St, Cleveland, OH 44113 (this is about a 10-minute walk from the Convention Center or a short ride on the free B Line Trolley)
    • For a sponsored night out, meet the Local Arrangements Committee and Social Justice at the Convention Committee for an evening of food, drink, and pub trivia, including prizes. This event will include free appetizers for conference attendees and drinks/mocktails for purchase. Join us for a fun evening at Mallorca!
  • Participatory Action Research With Activists, For Activists Roundtable: Friday, March 6, 8-9:15 a.m. in Room 203 of the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland
    • This roundtable will discuss the affordances and challenges of participatory action research (PAR) with local activists. Using a PAR project-in-progress constructing a public-facing online repository that explores the role of writing and communication in activism, we will talk about how to establish a community-driven set of research protocols that remains sensitive to the needs and desires of participating activists and their respective communities.
  • Rest as Resistance Mindfulness Space: Guided Meditation on Friday, March 6, at 9:30-10:30 a.m. in The Loft, Floor 4 of the Atrium, in the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland
    • Take time to pause, breathe, and ground yourself during CCCC. This designated mindfulness space promotes rest and care during the conference. Come sit in the quiet, practice mindful breathing, or stretch your body. The space is open for conference goers to drop in at any time during the conference to make use of the space. This space is available throughout the conference, too, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday and 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday.
  • 4Cs Stitch & Spin (2nd Annual!): Friday, March 6, 7:30–9:30 p.m. in The Loft, Floor 4 of the Atrium, in the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland
    • The Social Justice at the Convention Committee, Local Arrangements Committee, and Handcrafted Rhetorics SIG invite you to share your favorite tunes, get crafty, and make zines at the second annual 4Cs Stitch & Spin! Drop by to listen to music and flex your creative muscles over crafts. No experience necessary. Craft supplies will be on hand, including the Feminist Caucus’s quilt project, though you can also bring your own. We encourage you to add a song to our collaborative Spotify playlist at Gabbi Kelenyi and College Writing Program
