Dear Colleagues,
Language and Society is sponsoring two guaranteed panels at MLA 2027 in Los Angeles, and we invite 250-word abstract submissions for both. The deadline is March 22.
Session 1 (In-person)
Language Ideologies and the Discursive Construction of Emancipatory Narratives
We invite interdisciplinary contributions examining how language ideologies and practices — historically and in digital contexts — mediate power, shape public perception, and negotiate responsibility within social, political, and pedagogical institutions.
Session 2 (Online)
Multilingualism and Learning Ecologies
We invite contributions examining multilingual practices across classrooms and communities, with a focus on language development, identity formation, and learning ecologies in formal and informal educational settings, including digital environments and community-based language initiatives.
